The clinical features of chronic intestinal schistosomiasis-related intestinal lesions

Abstract Background Chronic intestinal schistosomiasis has been reported to be associated with colonic polyps, colorectal cancer and ulcerative colitis. We aim investigate the clinical characteristics of intestinal-related lesions caused by chronic japonicum. Methods Patients without were retrospectively enrolled from endoscopy center Wuhan Union Hospital September 1, 2014, June 30, 2019 a ratio 4:1. The infected segments analyzed in patients schistosomiasis. also compared lesions, including (CRC), ulceration or erosion mucosa hemorrhoids, between two groups. Results A total 248 992 analyzed. most common sites sigmoid colon (79.0%) rectum (84.7%). frequency polyps (64.5% vs. 42.8%, p < 0.001), especially rectal (62.5% 45.0%, = 0.002), group was significantly higher than that control group. Morphologically, type IIa more enteropathy (68.5% 60.7%, 0.001). Female had detection rate CRC women (13.8% 5.4%, 0.017). There no significant difference incidence colitis groups (0.8% 0.6%, 0.664). In addition, internal hemorrhoids (58.9% 51.0%, 0.027). Conclusions mainly involved likely induce hemorrhoids. Women have risk cancer.
